Who are IrishPonys.com? IrishPonys.com is a small family run operation based in Co. Wexford. It is headed by Dawn Ward who has over 30 years of experience in the saddle, numerous titles won in various disiplines throughout Ireland and further afield. As a child rider of considerable ability Dawn experienced the chances that are taken within the horse industry and has dedicated herself not only to bringing on suitable ponies for children to ride but through her teaching she encourages true rounded horsemanship so that the next generation of young riders can have wonderful memorable experiences with their four legged friends just as she did.
Where are we based? We are located in Killinick, a village which lies halfway between Wexford Town and Rosslare Ferry Port. We are ideally situated just a few hundred meters from the main road. Our home and yard is completely hidden away down a long avenue offering an ideal setting for pony persuits!
What type of Ponies do you sell? Any one of our ponies can be noted for a number of things. Always upon first viewings people remark on the pony's friendship or bond with their handler (Dawn). This is soon followed by remarks about the pony's obvious relaxed state and temperament as they are tacked and brought forward for a child to ride. All of our ponies conduct themselves under saddle in a simple, responsive and eager fashion. None of our ponies take a pull or have any hidden vices whist being ridden. We have never and will never allow a rider who fusses or creates a fussy pony to continue riding.
Do you offer Ponies on Trial? Always the tricky question! The answer is an unswerving NO. There is no hidden adgenda but we have asked previous customers if they would like a pony which has been passed from pillar to post before your child sat on board? All agreed with us that they would prefer a pony's complete history to be known. Whilst searching for our ponies we target ones that have been owned by only one other family besides ourselves. This along with our own carefully controlled environment ensures a pony that is as unspoiled as possible. Once a pony comes into our yard it does not ever leave our watchful eye.
What prices are your ponies? It is one of our policies to keep ponies as affordable as possible. Naturally each animal has very different abilities and we price each one according to age, temperament, size, experience, etc.e are producing ponies with one thought in mind. That thought is to provide very safe, rideable ponies that a child can enjoy, that won't cost the earth and that can be re-sold without problems once outgrown or interest is lost. Obviously each pony is very differen the next and so prices vary. We decide a price based on age, ability, cost to purchase, size, sex and experience to date.
Are your ponies suitable for children? s weWeEvponies n this website "ponies are to be ridden and handled by children" . Being parents ourselves and having spent careful time chosing mounts for our own kids we can fully appreciate other parent's concerns when it comes to finding the right choice of pony for your particular requirements.
How can I view a pony? A pony can be viewed once we have had an inital consultation and have in some cases assessed the rider. Viewing is strictly by appointment only. We are wonderfully located just meters away from a very well signed route no matter what part of Ireland you may be travelling from. Full directions are supplied with arrangement of viewing appointment.
Can I ride the pony? Of course. Upon arrival at our facility we make the introductions between the pony/ponies in question and the family. We allow time for all to become aquainted at which stage we will invite a knowledgable member of the group to groom, pick up feet and tack up. Riding follows in the school where initial suitability can be assessed. Once again we ask the family to be as involved as possible so they can satisfy themselves of every little detail. Further viewings can then be organised if deemed neccessary.
Do you offer trade ins? We are open to at least considering a trade in but we have rarely found the type of pony we would like to re-sell offered to us on a trade-in. We are not at all interested in stock that would be completely against what we produce ourselves. It is only a very select few ponies that make the grade for Irish Ponys.
Do all ponies come with a Passport? Absolutley. It is illigal in this country to sell a horse or pony with our correct paperwork. Each passport is stamped with vaccinations and any other veterinary history. We also pop in a change of ownership form for your convenience. Simply fill out the form and return it and the passport to the relevent authority.
What happens if I buy a pony that does not work out? Due to our careful approach it is rare that a pony and rider do not work out together. We make sure that the desision has been carefully thought through before shaking hands. We emphasise time and time again that if there is any doubt of any kind regarding the pony then don't buy it. Simple as that. Our ponies are honestly described and open to rigorous testing before purchasing. If there is a genuine problem, and the pony is in as perfect a condition both physically and mentally then we are happy to disscuss the way forward from this point.
